1925 — 2019

Claude Lalanne, born Claude Dupeux in 1925, was a French sculptor who forged a unique artistic path with her organic and poetic creations. She studied architecture at the École des Beaux-Arts and the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, but quickly turned to sculpture, where she found her true expression. Her meeting with François-Xavier Lalanne in 1952 marked the beginning of a legendary collaboration, both in art and in life, forming the renowned duo 'Les Lalanne'. Claude Lalanne's work is characterized by a deep connection to nature, which she transformed into surreal and functional objects. She often used techniques such as electroplating to capture the detail of plants, leaves, and animals, turning them into furniture, jewelry, and sculptures. Her works, such as the 'Choupatte' (cabbages with legs) or leaf-adorned mirrors, blurred the lines between art and everyday use, lending a dreamlike dimension to space. Claude Lalanne's influence extended beyond the art world, impacting fashion and design. She collaborated with leading fashion designers like Yves Saint Laurent, creating unique jewelry and accessories that incorporated her organic aesthetic. Her works have been exhibited in major galleries and museums worldwide, and are part of significant collections, recognizing her as one of the most original and influential artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. Claude Lalanne passed away in 2019, leaving behind a rich and recognizable body of work that continues to inspire and enchant. Her legacy lives on through her ability to transform the everyday into the extraordinary, inviting viewers to see the world through a prism of imagination and poetic beauty.
